Ran my first 5k yesterday! It may have taken me over 31 minutes, but I began running at the beginning of May, and knowing that I just did something I couldn't have done a month ago, or even 2 weeks ago, is very heartening. It feels great to attempt to maintain more control over my energy levels, and to do something that can really be measured for once. Already I started thinking about a half-marathon, or next year's Vancouver Sun Run (10k). Maybe I will do those things, and maybe I'll do them quite soon, but I should be focusing on improving my 5k time first. 

My improvement:

Week 1: Run 1 minute, walk 5 minutes.
Week 3: Run 7 minutes, walk 3 minutes.
Week 5: Run 9 minutes, walk  1 minute.
Week 7: Run 11 minutes, walk 1 minute, run 5k in ~31.20 minutes.

There might be a photo of me at the the finish line, because this run was at a community event and they documented some of what was going on. It always fascinates me how, if you photograph a runner from the front, they are falling or staggering in the photo, on their last legs -- when in reality they're approaching the finish with confidence.
